On February 16, 2008 at the packed Los Angeles Convention Center, Nam Phan defeated Saad Awad in the Gladiators Challenge promotion.  A month later, Cung Le defeated a long time MMA veteran Frank Shamrock on March 29, in a highly anticipated fight co-organized by Strikeforce and Elite XC at the HP Pavilion in San Jose.  Cung Le won via TKO when Frank Shamrock’s right arm was broken after a series of kicks, making him Strikeforce Middleweight Champion.

Both Nam Phan and Cung Le are professional mixed martial arts fighters.  We are all grateful to Ted Williams, Owner, Founder, and CEO of the Gladiator Challenge.  His website www.gladiatorchallenge.com features many exciting articles, merchandises,…and especially attractive pictures.

Second is Mil Mascaras.  He is an actor and professional wrestler.  Mascaras is known for entering the ring wearing a different mask, which he removes to reveal his familiar mask.  The link to the legendary “Man of 1,000 masks”:

Next is Pedro Morales.  He is the first man in wrestling history to win all three major titles in the World Wresting Federation:  the WWWF Heavyweight Championship, the Intercontinental Championship and the WWF World Tag Team Championship.  The following is Pedro Morales vs. Ivan Koloff:

The fourth is Bob Baclund.  In 1973, as an avid wrestling fan, I met with Bob Baclund, Dory Funk Jr., Terry Funk, and Dick Murdoch in Amarillo, Texas.  Bob was born in 1950 (the Year of Tiger, according to Vietnamese astrology).  Yet he is mild-mannered, polite, soft spoken, and always with a cheerful smile.  Bob is a two-time WWF Champion.  On Sunday June 9, 1997 his match against Ivan Koloff was exciting and well-performed:

Fifth is Dory Funk, Jr., the son of Dory Funk, Sr. and brother of Terry Funk.  Dory and his brother, Terry, are the only brothers in history to both hold the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.  On February 11, 1969 he defeated Genene Kiniski to win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship Belt:

In 1973, Harley Race won the title from Dory Funk, Jr. as the new NWA Champion.  Now, let’s hear Harley Race who claims himself “King of the Ring” talking about his life:

Probably no wrestler’s life is stranger than Bruiser Brody.  His real name is Frank Goodish, who was born on June 14, 1946.  Standing 6’8”, 326 lbs., with wild, long black hair, unkempt beard and fur covered boots, Bruiser Brody’s very appearance seemed to be strange and extraordinary.

His death on July 17, 1988 was even more mysterious.  Sources from Wrestling Museum relate he was scheduled to wrestle in Puerto Rico but got into a pre-match argument with wrestler/promoter Jose Gonzalez.  After Brody went back into the shower room, Gonzalez followed him in.Moments later, wrestlers heard screams from the shower area and watched as Brody stumbled out towards them, with several stab wounds to the stomach.

Gonzalez slipped out of the arena and medical attention was called.  Doctors botched several attempts, unfortunately, to save his life and Frank Goodish was dead at age of 42.  Gonzalez was arrested and charged with murder but all of the wrestlers present (including Tony Atlas) refused to testify for fear of reprisals.  Subsequently Gonzalez was acquitted of all charges.

Brody was well-known for refusing to follow the script laid out for a match and more than one occasion refused to lose when he was not in the proper frame of mind.  This tendency to deviate from the plans as well as his enormous size and strength made him a very feared wrestler – but not just by other wrestlers.  Frank Goodish, as Bruiser Brody fought with a rage and fury that brought electricity to an arena.  His death continues to bring a loud silence to the wrestling world.  The match Terry Funk vs Bruiser Brody is brutal and wild:
